Spotless Office

4 Tips for a Spotless Office

Like many Calgarians, you’re probably transitioning back to full-time work in the office. Now you get to take part in office banter around the water cooler and not in the chatbox of a Zoom meeting. Your pets are no longer your coworkers, and you actually have to change out of your pyjama pants every morning. No matter how you feel about returning to the office, you’ll want to make sure that you have a safe and sanitary place to do your job. We’ve compiled some of our most popular tips to keep your office spotless once you’re back at work.

Invest in Organization

Organizing may not be the most glamorous task, but it is incredibly helpful. Keep a garbage can and a recycle bin close by for easy disposal. Consider tools like document trays, shelves, or even a whiteboard with magnets to maintain tidiness. Not only will this help you keep your space clean since there will be less clutter, but it has the side effect of reducing the chances something will get lost.

Keep that Keyboard Clean

Computer keyboards are covered in tiny crevices that harbour all the crumbs and other debris that passes by your desk. Unlike other items, these devices can get incredibly dirty without you even knowing. At least twice a month, give your keyboard a deep clean. Shake it out over a trash bin to dislodge most of the physical debris. Then use a can of compressed air or slide a sticky note in between the keys to get the rest. Lastly, wipe down the top of the keyboard with a disinfectant wipe.

Clear Up Your Computer Monitor

Unplug the monitor during this process to avoid any moisture getting into electrical components. Take a damp microfiber cloth and wipe the monitor casing. You may need that compressed air again to clear out the vents. Then clean the screen. If your screen is glass you may use Windex or another glass cleaner, spray onto the cloth first and then wipe. For LCD screens, you can usually get away with a dry microfiber cloth. If smudges are stubborn, use the cloth in conjunction with a 50/50 water and isopropyl alcohol mixture.

Cherish Your Chair

Don’t forget about your office chair while you’re giving your space a good clean. Its surface literally holds you up during the workday and will collect all the debris you bring to it. Soft surfaces can be vacuumed with an upholstery brush. A microfiber cloth can be used to wipe down all the hard surfaces. You may even consider lubricating any moving parts, especially if your chair has started to squeak!
